Question Hi Katie!
My name is Sean Wcisel. I'm an expert in a few computer related categories, and I'm very happy to be a part of the team :). I'd like to know what the rules are regarding posting the content of my questions on a personal website. I do some work putting together tutorials on my site, and I'd like to know what the preferred method of referring to my work here would be. Would I be allowed to post the questions if I then posted a link to this site for the answers? I know that information is cleared off this site periodically; may I then post it on a personal site to keep it alive? I hate to string together so many questions, perhaps you could clarify for me.
P.S. I'm sorry if this question has been answered before (and I'm sure it has), but a cursory glance didn't turn up anything.
Thanks for all your hard work!
Sean
Answer Hi Sean,
Great question.
It is not an issue for you to link to the answers on AllExperts and post the question on your site. AllExperts prefers to be the definitive source for the answers though for two reasons. The first is that search engines frown on duplicate copies of content and may rank us both lower if they detect that. The second is that is how users find us and we want to remain the definitive place for them to find the best answers to all their questions. We are attempting going forward to keep full archives of all non-private past Q&A's. If for some reason in the future we change this policy and actually do delete the archive, you may publish it on your own site with a link back to the AllExperts category it came from.
Our main concern when publishing questions is protecting the privacy of the questioner. If the question was flagged as private, then please avoid publishing it. For non-private questions, please edit out all identifying information - email addresses, phone numbers, addresses, last names. If the poster has a unique first name - use an alias, and if the situation described is unique enough to be identified by anyone the questioner knows or may know, please do not publish it.
Hope this helps and thank your for your dedication and for volunteering,
Katie
