Alternative Housing - Techni stone

Expert: Lemelia Bonner - 3/19/2004

Question
Hi Lemelia,
What information can you give me for a Techni stone counter top?  How does it hold up to heat and cold?  Will it crack or chip easily?  Why don't more people have it in their homes?  Which is all around better, Techni stone or natural stone?
Thank you,
Randy

Answer
Hi, Randy
Technistone can really be called a "superstone," as it has practically all of the desirable features a consumer could wish for in kitchen and bathroom applications.  It's basically an engineered stone combining the best characteristics of both solid surface products (such as Corian) with natural stone products (such as Granite and Marble).  By bringing together these qualities, Technistone eliminates the weaknesses of each.  It is HIGHLY heat and scratch resistant, more so than Corian, and does not crack or chip easily.  Plus, it comes in a much wider variety of colors than one could readily find in the natural stones.  I guess the only reason more people don't have it in their homes is that they either don't know about it yet or because of budget constraints they feel it's not a viable choice.  But, I'm sure this product will soon become the standard in many types of new home construction.
