About Brian McElroy
Expertise
I am a home builder in the Tampa Florida area specializing in energy-efficient homes built with precast concrete wall systems that are hurricane resistant to 235 mph. I have researched and used many methods of new home construction and find this the most cost-effective, environmentally-friendly method of home building for this area. I am also investigating other alternative methods to improve my products. I am a member of the Florida Green Build Coalition, EPA Energy Star Program, and have other affiliations involving energy savings, safe building practices and quality construction practices

Question
Have you had any experiences with Papercrete? It is said to be strong like concrete but lighter in weight. Any advice on this?

Answer
I read the info on their website, but I would need more information before making a decision. I do like the concept of using waste products in the mix, however, I would be concerned about getting the correct mixture for stability and durability. I have used a similar product called Stuco-flex, but it is a spray on synthetic concrete. The Papercrete book is not expensive, it might be worth a look. Ask your local building department if it meets local building codes and see if engineering or Underwriters Laboratories have approved the product for your specific use. Good luck and thanks for the challenging queston and new product introduction.
