Alternative Housing/modular homes

Question
My husband and I are considering building a modular home. We live in eastern North Carolina. We know very little about this type of housing. We presently live in a regular built house. What advice or suggestions can you give us about where to begin?

Answer
Hi, Patricia
I know you send this request some time ago, and I must apologize. I had a family medical emergency that required my full attention for many weeks. I am also in North Carolina, and this is one of the best places in the country to find a wide variety of modular home manufacturers and builders with experience erecting them. I would suggest that you go online and request information from the following companies, which have excellent reputations: Nationwide Homes, Palm Harbor Homes, HandCrafted Homes, Mod-U-Kraft, Cardinal Homes & R-Anell Homes. Most of these companies have model homes you can tour, and HandCrafted even gives regular tours of their plant to potential customers on weekends. Hope this helps!
