Alternative Medicine/natural antibacterial

Question
Hi. My son had a stool test recently that showed him to be high in several bacterias. It was suggested to me from a knowledgeable friend that I put him on Bactrim to fight off these bacterias. (He is autistic and recently had a huge flare up of OCD behaviors that can be linked to bacteria...in theory.) Is there a natural alternative to Bactrim? Thank you!

Answer
Hi Melissa,
I do not know of any natural alternatives to antibiotics when antibiotics are warranted. An antibiotic selection is made based on the sensitivity of the bacteria to the antibiotic. Sometimes antibiotics are prescribed empirically by knownig the typical bacteria one finds infecting an area of the body. This selection can be changed depending on the culture and sensitivity report from the lab. You need to see you doctor.
Thank you for using Allexperts
