Question
I had a Cholesterol Test and this is the results:Chol:225, Trig:143, DHDL:50, VLDL:29, LDL/HDL RATIO: 2.9, CHOL/HDL RATIO: 4.5, LDL CALCULATED: 146. I was told to bring my cholesterol down by exercise and diet. What I'am wanting to know is my ratio good. I heard that was important. What are your suggestions on bringing it down naturally? Thanks

Answer
Hi Margo,
The optimal ldl:hdl ratio is 1.7:1
Diet ans exercise can bring down your ratio. Also niacin supplement can help. Niacin causes flushin when used initially but with time the flushing decreases. You can also get no-flush niacin which helps bring your cholesterol down but it is not as effective as the regular niacin. Do not confuse niacinamide with niacin. They are chemically related but niacinamide has no effect on choolesterol
Thank you for using Allexperts
