Question
One year and 2 months ago, I had an abortion.  Although this is against everything i believe in, I am only 17 and with the child not having a father and my parents threat to cut off all support and throw me out, i felt that i had to commit this horrible sin.  I realize it has made me grow as a person, but i have also changed in many ways.  I am no longer close to my friends, as i once was an extremely social person.  I have many other stresses in my life such as taking care of my 7-year-old sister because my parents are now divorced and my mother works third shift.  I feel as if i am 40 years old.  Another big problem that i have had is my hair is EXTREMELY thin compared to the way it was before i became a teenager.  I would say my hair has lost 3/4 of its initial volume.  I would greatly appreciate any help...thanks

Answer
Hi JUstine,
Hair loss can be caused by hormonal changes and by low thyroid function. I am sorry you had to go through an abortion and family break-up. I am sure the anxiety and emotional turmoil is not helping. BE strong. You will overcome this hardship. Have your doctor check your thyroid and female hoemone levels. At your age I expect that your female hormone levels are ok unless your eating habits are such as to compromise them.
Thank you for using Allexperts
