Alternative Medicine/adrenal function

QuestionI'm a 48 year old female. A quick review of my history might help. About 25 years ago (1984) I was diagnosed with Crohn's disease. It was very active for the next 4 years. In 1986 I had a bowel resection (3-4 inches) and in 1988 I almost died due to an abdominal abscess. Over the next year I began to feel much better and the Crohn's wasn't active. I then went through an extremely stressful situation which lasted for several months. When that resolved, it seemed that my body immediately just shut down. I couldn't sleep, I couldn't think straight (ex. I would sit in my closet and sob because I couldn't figure out what to wear, I would go to work and would cry because I couldn't figure out what to do first), my brain just wouldn't work, I developed food allergies (breathing problems), etc. After many months, I found an alternative doctor who helped me eliminate the food allergies and put me on a special diet to help with this also. Over time I began to feel better, but never back to "normal".
Fast forward 25 years. My Crohn's hasn't been active much in the last 25 years. Ten years ago, I developed rheumatoid arthritis and went to a practitioner who used the NAET allergy elimination technique and put me on a special diet. Within 3-4 months, the arthritis was gone (no more pain and blood work showed no arthritis). I have now developed osteoporosis in one of my hips. The other hip and my spine are almost to that point as well. I take bio-identical hormones and a calcium supplement to help with this.
I also currently take each day: 1 T. cod liver oil, 5 gm. L-glutamine, 5 gm. MSM, and 5-7 gm. Chlorella. I bought a juicer a couple of years ago and recently started drinking 16 oz. of juice each day (spinach, parsley, celery or cucumber, 1 lg. carrot, 1 lemon, 1" piece of ginger and 1 apple). I try to eat more raw, whole foods each day, but I struggle with that.
I feel, based on a test from Denis Wilson's website, that I still have a mild case of adrenal fatigue. I still feel tired most of the time (wake up tired), and don't sleep well (I take 10 mg. of amitriptyline at night to help). I would love to work in the natural health industry, but don't feel that I can, because I don't feel I could learn and retain the information. Are there any supplements that I can take to help with my adrenal function? Any other suggestions?
Thanks for your help, Marie
AnswerMarie,
It sounds like you have come a long way through natural health care, and as I'm sure you are now aware, the proper nutrition is essential. In most every situation of an auto-immune issue, the adrenal exhaustion is exhibited in some form, at least so it seems. Pantothenic Acid is a wonderful vitamin supplement for the adrenals. It is also known as Vitamin B5. Actually a good B Complex with added B5 might be beneficial in addition to what you are presently doing.
I wish you well and will pray for further healing for you.
Kind Regards,
Kindred
