Question
i am 12 weeks pregnant and i have just found out i have bv. my doctor prescribed CLEOCIN ovules for 3 days. but i have ready that this can cause premature birth, late miscarriage, and other side effects. i am worried about taking it.

Answer
Hi Jacque,
There are no adequate studies of clindamycin in pregnant women. Animal studies are not always predictive of human outcome. Bacterial vaginosis itself poses a risk to pregnancy. You need to balance risk versus benefit. Metronidazole is another option for treating bacterial vaginosis. If you are reluctant to use clindamycin, ask your doctor about metrnidazole as an option.
Thank you for using Allexperts
