Question
Hi.Id like to know if fish oil suppplements contain iodine..and if its safe to take everday.I have a family history of hyperthyroidism and i think iodine should be avoided. Thanks ...Linda

Answer
Hello Linda,
Fish would naturally contain some iodine since they're from the sea, and all seafoods or seaweeds have iodine.  The iodine may be taken out by processing, but you would need to check with the manufacturer, and they should be able to provide some information on that, ideally a 3rd party verified analysis of the ingredients.
It may be difficult to eliminate all dietary iodine because it does naturally occur in many plants, as well as seafoods, and your body does need some iodine to properly regulate the thyroid.  If you want to look into other ways to prevent hyperthyroidisim, I'd suggest seeking out a naturopathic or holistic doctor in your area for individual recommendations.  That may help you feel more prepared to avoid this condition.  Good luck.
