Question
Hello Dr. Conner, I have had pain in my right elbow
for the past week (moderate pain). Today I went to the hospital ER because it was bad last night.  They
gave me x-rays and the ER doctor advised me I have Tendonitis in my right elbow.  He perscribed Ibuprofen 800 MG to be taken three times pr day if I
need them.  Question: What type of herbs can I take to manage the Tendonitis problem?  I am 54 yrs old and in relative good health.  Thank you for your time...Mike

Answer
Hello Mike,
Thanks for your question.  For immediate treatment of the pain, there are herbal anti-inflammatories that can be used with or instead of ibuprofen.  These combinations will contain bromelain, quercetin, ginger, tumeric or curcumin, rosemary, boswellia, and other herbs.  There are also enzyme combinations taken between meals.  Other options are to follow an antiinflammatory diet removing sugar, corn, wheat, dairy, soy, fried and processed foods, and use contrast hydrotherapy (hot followed by cold for several rounds).  Finally, homeopathics like Arnica or combinations of arnica with other remedies are often useful, can be taken multiple times a day, and can be taken with medications or other supplements.
For long term relief, removing the cause will be key and perhaps working with a chiropractor or physical medicine specialist to assist in the recovery process.
In health,
Dr Conner
