Alternative Medicine/Liver Qi Stagnation

Question
I have recently been receiving acupuncture for my carpal tunnel in my right hand.  They have determined that I have Liver Qi Stagnation.  I have been taking Chinese herbs for this and I feel so much better.  Typically can  Liver Qi Stagnation be completely treated or do you have to keep taking herbs as a "maintenance" situation forever?

Answer
Hello Lanette,

I am very happy to hear you are finding relief in the acupuncture.

First, I would like to say I cannot treat or give herbal recommendations over the internet without an examination.  So it is hard for me to get an idea of your situation.  Everyone is different, and it is hard to predict how long people need to be on a formula. If you have not, I would ask your practitioner and I would trust what they say.

In general, Liver qi stagnation can be a long term or permanent relief, if you remove the cause the of the stagnation, which is often stress and anxiety.  Doing tai ji, chi gong, yoga, and walking can help with this.

Best,
Joe
