Question
Hi Eric,

I am desperate and I hope that you can help.  Like many Americans, I have found myself unemployed without health insurance.  Hence, no prescription coverage.  I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia almost 3 years ago and am on some pretty pricey drugs.  I was wondering if you could suggest some natural alternatives to these drugs which are...Lyrica, Lexapro, and Ultram.  I also take ibuprofen, which I can get anywhere for little to nothing.  I did read somewhere else that a magnesium/calcium supplement may take the place of the Lyrica.  Your thoughts and suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again,
Jamie

Answer
Hi Jamie,
Lyrica works for nerve pain and sometimes topical capsaicin can help that depending on the location of the pain.
Ultram is an opioid-like pain killer. A prescription for Tylenol with codeine may offer similar pain relief for a lot less money than Ultram.
There are less expensive prescription antidepressants. You need to discuss the options with your doctor. St johns wort is a herbal supplement that can help in mild depression.
I have not heard of calcium/magnesium supplement as alternatives to Lyrica. If you try it, please let me know if it works.
Thank you for using Allexerts
Sincerely,
