Alternative Medicine/cystic acne?

Question
Hello.  I have a question about a skin condition.  My husband (who has no history of skin cancer) developed a large, hard, marble-like knot on his neck.  It didn't seem to get better or worse for over a month.  Finally I decided to try and get rid of it.  I used bentonite clay masks on the spot after he got out of the shower.  After a few applications a central pore seemed evident and the knot seemed smaller.  I squeezes it (probably shouldn't have) and out came a white, thick, dry material.  After putting another bit of bentonite clay on it, we left it alone until the next day, then repeated the squeezing.  Lots more of this white, thick, dry material (almost stringy) came out.  The knot is hard to see now, but I can still feel a small knot beneath the skin.  My plan is to continue the bentonite until it goes away, but his body doesn't seem to be helping out.  Strangely enough, it isn't red/pussy and doesn't hurt.  What do you think?

Answer
Dear Deborah,
The white dry material you sound to be describing, sounds like what the body produces to fight something foreign.  If what you are doing is working, then continue it.  I would recommend something to boost his immune system.  A good multi-vitamin, elderberry, something along those lines.  Without knowing for sure what it is, I'm hesitant to recommend something to increase circulation in the area.  This is not a diagnosis, but it really sounds like some sort of infected pore or follicle and the body "attacked" the infection or foreign substance and built up an encapsulated barrier that it cannot dissipate and needs to be released through the pore or follicle.  If you are not doing anything overtly, invasive and it's reduced in size, it sounds like his body is responding favorably to this treatment.
I wish you well.  Sounds like you're on the right track and taking good care of your husband.
Kind Regards,
Liz
