Alternative Medicine/NAC

Question
Hi and thank you for answering my question.
I am taking NAC (N-acetal-cystein) to help de-tox my kidneys (stage 3 CKD)of OTC pain meds, and I understand one is supposed to take extra Vitamin C along with the NAC to avoid forming cystein kidney stones. But, one is also not supposed to take extra Vitamin C if they have CKC (chronic kidney disease), so I am left very confused. I asked my Internist, and she didn't know. Thanks for any clarification.

Confused in Seattle,
Pam

Answer
Hi Pam - I understand why you are confused because I have heard both sides of the story.

I am a Shaklee Consultant and I was told in my training that taking the vit C actually decreases the kidney stones.   I will try and see if I can find out any further info.  I take it your internist did not make a recommendation not to take it.

I wasn't clear if you have chronic kidney stones with the ailment you are experiencing.    If you want to continue this discussion and see if I can be of further assistance, contact me directly at suzanne@empoweringserenity.com.  Best   Suzanne
