Alternative Medicine/anxiety and depression

Question
Are there any risks with taking prescription meds for anxiety and depression and alternative/natural supplements for the same symptoms silmultaneously? I am skeptical that alternative medicine can combat severe depression and anxiety so I am contemplating using both methods.. Is this a bad idea?

Answer
Hi - from my understanding there are risks.   Both the meds and the alternative supplements contain dopamine and seratonin, chemicals in the brain.   I would check with our pharmacist and take his recommendations.   An option is to try the alternatives for awhile but they do take awhile to kick in.  If they are not working to the degree you need, then go back on the pharmacy.   I wish I could tell you to do both; but all my training and reading have advised against using both at the same time.  Best,  Suzanne
