Question
QUESTION: Hi,
I have started to take vitex since my recent period .Normally it takes 7-10 days to finish BUT this time bleeding was 7 days and then 10 days little brown bleeding I had .In day 17 bleeding have started again non stop! I want to know if it is vitex or I have faced a problem.

ANSWER: Hello Farzaneh,
Women typically see minor changes in their cycles with the vitex, but continual bleeding is not typical.  It may be a sign that the herb is unsuitable for you; even though vitex can work well for menstrual disorders (which I assume is why are taking it), it's not the right herb for everyone.  I couldn't say for sure without knowing your full history, but since you are already having long periods, there may be an underlying disorder such as uterine fibroids, in which case I have not found vitex to be effective on it's own.  What I would strongly suggest is that you first find out if there is an underlying condition, and then consult with a naturopathic doctor or herbalist in your area for specific guidance on what herbs to take for it.  tTe herbal combinations can work very well it's just a matter of finding the correct fit.

First of all I would like to thank you for your guidance . As I wrote   you I'm having 7-10 days periods . In fact 2 days before I have some spotting and then 5 days bleeding and at the end some days brown discharge . My period was 28 days BUT the last one started in day 33 and before that I had 3 times period of 25 days .With this history still you think there may be an underlying disorder such as uterine fibroids ?I'm worried about it please give me more information.
Thank you in advance.

Answer
I really couldn't say with this amount of information.  But I would reiterate that if you are unsure of what's going on, it's best to seek out a practitioner for assessment.  There are many possibilities for what might be going on, and it couldn't be determined without knowing more.  You can always look for natural options for treatment once that has been established.
