Alternative Medicine/HPV and immune system.

Question
I was diagnosed with HPV (genital warts) a year ago. There are warts that can't be removed with conventional methods due to their sensitive locations on my body. My OBGYN told me to "eat a healthy diet" to improve my immune system and help my body defeat the virus that's causing the warts to grow. I started taking a multi-vitamin and vitamin B12 a long time ago, eating more vegetables, less junk, etc, I make fresh fruit and vegetable juice for breakfast... these stubborn warts are just not going away! So I have TONS of questions related to this, but I'll try to limit to a few...

What are the BEST herbs and supplements to take to increase immune function? I can only afford a few things, most stuff I've read gives me a list a mile long.

What specific foods should I be eating more of to help boost the immune system?

Also, what type of practitioner would I look for to get help with this issue? (Someone who can treat the warts topically with something natural and also advise me on diet, dietary supplements and herbs to kick the virus.)

Thanks so much for your help on this annoying and embarrassing issue. Any other advice you can give will be greatly appreciated, as well.

Answer
Well, there's lots of natural treatments possible, but I can't say for sure what are the best for you. Often HPV can be related to nutrient deficiencies such as beta carotene and folic acid, so a diet that contains foods high in those nutrients & sometimes supplements are often useful.  For immune support, it is equally important to avoid sugar, processed & junk foods, and personal food sensitivities, as it is to include more water, fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and legumes.  More specific foods to support the immune system such as garlic, mushrooms, and hot peppers, can also be included once the basic diet is good.  However, to make sure what you choose really works for you, I'd suggest a more complete assessment with a naturopathic or holistic doctor in your area.  Natural treatments are best prescribed only after finding out the full history, diet, lifestyle, etc.  Not only will you obtain a plan that will work better for you but also benefit your health overall and save money in the long term.
