Alternative Medicine/Deep Breathing

Question
Hi,
I have been attending a clinic for pain management.  one of the things we are doing is some deep breathing things.  Honestly, I don't see how deep breathing can help pain.  I have come on this forum to see if you can offer me any insights on how breathing can or is supposed to help pain.  Thank you.

Answer
Dear Ray,
Deep breathing does help pain.  First, it relaxes the body.  Second, it increases oxygenation.  And third, it increases blood flow.  All of those things help in pain management.  I use deep breathing in managing spasms associated with MS.  I haven't had so much as a Tylenol in over 10 years.
I hope you are feeling better soon.
Kind Regards,
KD Liz
