Alternative Medicine/smoking mullein leaves

Question
I have mild asthma and I've been reading that smoking mullein leaf can relax the lungs. Wouldn't doing this cause more problems in the long term? Also, would making a tincture and taking that on a regular basis help?
Thank you for your time.

Answer
Hello Mike,
Mullein was used traditionally for lung conditions either orally or smoked, but modern usage does not support this use, especially long term.  Typically we will use more antiinflammtory or antispamodics herbs or nutrients now, since our understanding of the disease has improved as well as the choices available.  If you are looking for treating asthma, a natural approach that includes dietary and lifestyle changes along with herbs/ nutrients may be helpful, and consulting a practitioner near you would be the place to start for that.
