Question
Dear Eric Brandt
Do you answer questions on artherosclerosis?

I have artherosclerosis which was caused due to psychotrophic drugs which I took for a year. I have been off them for 2.5 yrs and regained my mental health through nutritional supplements, but unfortunately I am left with this condition. It has affected my brain with narrowing of cartoid arteries therefore I am experiencing some short term memory, slowed thinking, some general forgetfulness, some unusual mood changes (e.g. irritability}. I am wondering is this conditon reversible, I am 50 yrs. I am worried I will have a stroke, or that there may already be some dying of the brain cells. Is there something I can do to reverse the damage?

Is this your area? or can you direct me to where I can find help?

Thank you
Cristelle

Answer
Hi Cristelle,
Atherosclerosis is caused by fatty deposits along blood vessels. Diet low in fat, and controlling your blood sugar can help reduce the risk. The vitamin Niacin and statin medications can help stop progression and reverse some of the damage.
Thank you for using Allexperts
Sincerely,
