Question
Dear Doctor, I had my gall bladder removed 10 years ago, I am 55 years old. My Dr. wants me to have a procedure, I think is risky, the debray procedure with morphine. I have read that people have had pancreatic attacks from the procedure. I test positive for H. Pylori. I think I have low HCI levels and possibly need enzyme therapy for the pancreas. Raw fresh Ginger, garlic, apple cidar vinegar and cayenne are helping now. Do I need pancreatic enzymes with ox bile? I'm confused by glandular versus vegetable enzymes, which is better?

Answer
Hello,
When one is missing the gall bladder, the body may not be as efficient in breaking down food, and these people often find taking enzymes with bile can help improve digestion and absorption. Enzymes from plant or animal source can work similarly, people do have preferences, but it's unclear which is superior, many people decide by trial and error and see what works better for them.  The low HCl is a separate but related issue, and it's possible that your ability to produce HCl is also affected, which could have contributed to the original issue and/ or developed since your GI function was compromised from the gall bladder removal.  Without knowing your full history, this is all somewhat speculative, and if this is an issue you'd like more specific guidance in, I'd strongly suggest you seek out a ND or holistic nutritionist, or similar practitioner for an individual appointment.
In health,
