Question
I've had this all my life and have heard it's lack of iron or other nutrients. Although once briefly as a child I had low iron, my blood panels always come out normal for vitamin levels. Plus its been my whole life, some fingers and some toe nails. I'm of eastern European descent, US born, female, 5'5", 125 lbs, 57 y.o., past menopause, never pregnant, never smoked, rarely drink, regular exercise, healthy diet: some meat/lots of vegs, no extremes (pretty boring!). I do have Hashimoto's Thyroiditus and take Synthroid for past 15+ years. And medication-resistant depression. I tried quite a few with no effects; exercise works much better. What causes my thin, shrimpy, warped nails?

Prolamins like Gluten in wheat, barley, rye, oats, sorghum buckwheat and soy causes your hashimoto's thyroiditis with its associated nail disease and so much more in the human body
While your synthyroid can make the TSH and T4 look more normal it does  not clear the several hundred other changes in your body like your beriberi symptoms, too many to discuss here
