Question
QUESTION: Hello,

I want to ask weather antidepressants can stop the action of herbal remedies(withania sominfera) in particular?

ANSWER: Hi Prince,
Withania sominfera affects serotonin receptors. Some antidepressants also work on serotonin receptors. There is therefor a theoretical potential interaction. However there are no well documented interactions in the literature with this supplement.

QUESTION: HELLO THERE.

Thank you for your prompt response. Please clarify my doubt. So you want to say that there will be some adverse reaction when withania sominfera will be taken with some anti-depressant and taking both of them together should be avoided at all costs.

Thanks.

Answer
Hi Prince,
I would not avoid it entirely. The interaction is theoretical but there has been no conclusive reports in the literature that positively state the interaction will occur. Proceed with caution, start with low dose and build up to the recommended dose. If you notice any unusual effects that are otherwise unexplainable, stop the supplement.
