Alternative Medicine/Dessicated porcine thyroid

Question
Hi Peter
I know it is unwise to self medicate, but I recently began taking dessicated porcine thyroid capsules. I am male, 59, overweight, and have always had a hard time losing weight, in spite of being a light eater and quite active. My wife and friends will back this up.
Suspecting hypothyroid, I asked for test on my last visit to my doctor but he said I was normal.
Nonetheless, its been three weeks taking these, and although I have only lost a pound and a half, I am feeling better, and most noticeably, my irritable bowel has resolved! I used to suffer from constant bloating, gas, and recently acid reflux, in spite of watching what I eat. Now my belly feels great-its almost like it is healing!? Have you ever heard of this? Thanks.

Answer
Dear Charlie

Have I ever heard of the coinnection of the low thyroid and functional GI disorders? Yes.

I see it every day. I wrote the book about functional digestive disorders, their relation with the pancreas. I do not believe in IBS. It is “garbage can” for functional digestive disorders. If doctors do not know the reasons for symptoms, they call it IBS. Thyroid gland and pancreas play significant role in what you call IBS. Pancreas is core of your proper digestion. If you want to know more about, read my EBook “Healthy Pancreas, Healthy You”, part 1. Pancreas is core of your proper digestion.

Go to functional disorders, metabolic syndrome.

Constipation and low thyroid, deficiency of the vitamin D and low thyroid, high cholesterol, and low thyroid, low thyroid and Candida-yeast overgrowth are common, interrelated conditions.

About your situation. I am glad, you are better after thyroid hormonal therapy; however, you are right “it is unwise to self medicate” with hormons. You can make the mistakes and side effects.
How do the holistic doctors check the thyroid function in their patients?
•   By appearance
•   By symptoms
•   By basal temperature test
•   By thyroid panel, TSH is not enough

I presume that if you have the weight issue, you may have metabolic syndrome, fatty liver, fatty pancreas, insulin resistance, food sensitivity, deficiency of the vital nutrients, etc. You need broad-spectrum help.

I do phone consultations all over the globe.

I wish you good health
