Question Hi, Here is a list of the meds my husband takes with the coral calcium: Diovan HCT, Lipitor, Tricor, Prevacid, Toprol XL. Thanks for your time!

-----Question-----
My husband takes coral calcium along with his blood pressure/cholesterol medicine. My question is does he need to take this coral calcium at a different time then his other medicine? A doctor told me that calcium citrate would bind with medicine and affect the effectiveness of it, so to take it 30-60 minutes afterwards, so my husband needs to know if this is applicable to coral calcium too.
-----Answer-----
Hi Sandy,
Could you please list your husband's other medications for me? I can then plug the list into my drug interaction program and check for potential interactions.
Thanks.

Answer Hi Sandy,
Caclcium can interfere with the absorption of some medications. However it does not interfere with the absorption of the medications you listed. They can be safely taken at the same time. I do recommend that Pevacid be taken separately first thing in the morning before other foods or meds. The reason is that when Prevacid is taken on an empty stomach it reached higher concentrations in the body and is more effective. Avoid grapefruit and grapefruit juice when taking Lipitor.
Thank you for using Allexperts
Sincerely,
