Alternative Medicine/Digestion question
Expert: Dr. Leo Nollet - 1/19/2007
QuestionThank you for a prompt response.
I don't normally use the allexperts site. May be just several times. And I wouldn't normally even comment on the answer. I would just move on if I disagreed. But I have not seen anything like that.
You signed on to participate in this service. The impression is that you haven't even read my questions.
I didn't need a reference to another website, which by the way does not answer my specific question. That is why I asked a doctor.
As to my second question, regarding a natural stomach acidity PH test. I specifically said that I DID NOT want Pepsid to be used to check whether it's over-acidic or under-acidic. I wanted to know how to naturally test PH BEFORE I would take Pepsid that is definitely designed to lower acidity.
And what do you do? You refer me to the Pepsid website. Why?

-----Question-----
1. Doctor,
I would appreciate your clarification on seemingly confusing issue about digestion.
There are definitions of "alkalinic" and "acidic" foods.
There are also definitions of "alkalizing" (alkali forming) and "acidifying" (acid forming) foods.
I understand that by definition the "alkalizing" foods create IN THE STOMACH alkalinic environment
Fruits and vegetables are alkalizing. Including vegetables and fruits. Including seemingly acidic citrus fruits, as an example.
Why then the citrus fruits and juices, alkalizing foods that are supposed to lower acidity in the stomach and make it more alkalinic, are considered to be harmful at hyperacidity?
2. My doctor recommended trying Pepsid, just to check whether I have high or low stomach acidity, depending on how I would feel (??)
I prefer to find out the level of my stomach acidity naturally, at least not using medication. Could you recommend the natural means of determining the stomach acidity? By some food, for example.

AnswerDear BK,
don't normally use the allexperts site. May be just several times. And I wouldn't normally even comment on the answer. I would just move on if I disagreed. But I have not seen anything like that.
You signed on to participate in this service. The impression is that you haven't even read my questions.
I did read your question. You are asking about alkaline and acidic foods and I tried to give you an answer.
To my opnion this site is based on volunteers trying to help.
I didn't need a reference to another website, which by the way does not answer my specific question. That is why I asked a doctor.
As I already wrote I tried to help. There are many ways for trying to help.
By the way I'm not a doctor in medicine but a doctor in sciences.
Why?
I have read you didn't want to use Pepcid. Why referring to this website. To give you more information about it.
Next time instead of trying to help I will refuse such questions.
So please remember the word 'try'.
I wish you all luck.
