Alternative Medicine - Hair Loss

Question
Hello!

I'm experiencing some hair loss and the actual strands of hair have become thinner and I'm thinking it may be related to hormone changes from menopause. I'm trying to figure out what natural substances might be good to improve my hair. I've read that natural progesterone is good, though I don't know where to find it, but I've also heard that a lack of estrogen is the problem. Also I read that the problem is the estrogen and progesterone are out of balance, or maybe there is too little of both of them.

Anyway, do you have any suggestions of some natural substances I should be taking that might alleviate my hair problem?

Thank you.

Loretta

Answer
While there are some products that claim to stimulate or produce natural hormones, you would be best served to go to your gynecologist. Actually several types of medications, including certain female hormones, can cause hair loss while others can prevent it.

It's possible you may have inherited hair loss, drug-related hair loss or hormone- or vitamin-deficient hair loss, or it could be caused by stress.

You could try different supplements and treatments, but a professional (dermatologist or gynecologist or endocrinologist) might be able to diagnose your problem in moments.

This is general information and not intended to take the place of your physician's advice.
