Alternative Medicine/Rhinocort Aqua vs Ponaris

Question
My 4 year old son suffers from severe allergies. He is currently taking Rhinocort aqua and Singulair once a day. He also takes albuterol when necessary. I am anxious about the amount of medications he is on and am interested in more natural remedies. Recently someone suggested I try Ponaris in place of Rhinocort Aqua. Is that a good idea?

Answer
Hi Kathleen,
An allergic reaction often triggers an inflamtory response to the allergen.
Rhinocort is a potent inhaled steroid that acts locally to reduce the inflammation.
Ponaris contains lubricants and some natural essential oils such as eucalyptus oil. It is in no way near Rhinocort in potency in reducing inflammation caused by a severe allergy as your son suffers.
Ponaris may be useful in inflammation caused by the common cold which are self limiting anyway.
I do not think Ponaris is a good idea for your son.
Thank you for using Allexperts
Sincerely,
