Alternative Medicine/Vitex giving strange results: missed periods

Question
The herb vitex is reputed to adjust levels of progesterone and estrogen, which one is dependent on which is out of balance in that person.  Also saw that it increases luteinizing hormone, which is supposed to trigger ovulation, and that it reduces prolactin.  Well: I tried vitex several times, for one PMS symptom that I get: major breast swelling before and during period.  Reducing prolactin should prevent that.  It did, but it also prevented my period from coming at all!  Have tried on two independent occassions.  Other women talk about vitex "regulating" their periods.  Not me.  Why? If it encourages ovulation, then why on earth would I not have a period when I use it?  I took 800 mg (in capsules, standardized extract powder) per day, for at least 2 weeks prior to the time my period was supposed to come.

Answer
You might try using wild yam and chanste tree (vitex)in combination.  If that does not work try using it the first half of your cycle. If that does not work you might try Progesteron Cream. Magnesium (internally) and or Progesteron cream (directly applied to the breast can help with tenderness.
