Question
i was just wondering if there is an alternative birth control, i have read about all the side effects other birthcontrols have on the body.

Answer
Michelle,
Thanks for your question.
As far as alternative methods for birth control, there is nothing that is as reliable as hormonally-based contraceptives.  But for many women, barrier methods such as the cervical cap or diaphragm, or condoms can be effective when used correctly, without any of the side effects of oral birth control.  Knowing your cycle is important, too, and the fertility awareness method of birth control is a good alternative for women who are in stable monogamous relationships where pregnancy is not desirable, but where an accidental pregnancy would not be the end of the world.  It has the fewest side effects of any method, and is also a great way to know your body's rhythms; it's also helpful to learn if you do want to get pregnant in the future.  A good book on how to do this method is Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler.  Finally, permanent birth control is an option if you and your partner definitely do not want children.
If you do choose oral contraceptives, some of the side effects can be decreased by taking a good B complex vitamin supplement and essential fatty acids like fish or flax oil.
Good luck in your search.
