Alternative Medicine/detoxification

Question
Is the canning preservative Surejell a safe and effective way to purge the urinary system?

Answer
Barry,
I would not suggest using Surejell, as it is not a supplement and therefore it may be difficult to find the therapeutic dosage.  There are apple pectin products available, usually mixed with other herbs or nutrients.

Surejell is pectin, which is known as a fiber.  Fibers are primarily used in cleansing the digestive system, bulking stools and promoting regular bowel movements.  Pectin and most other fibers don't have a strong effect in the urinary tract; although if you are looking to do a whole body detoxification program, you need to address all systems of elimination.  Most supplements that are used to increase urinary tract function are diuretics.  Some well known ones are slippery elm, marshmallow, corn silk, cleavers, nettle leaf, parsley, lemon, hydrangea, and uva ursi.  Of course, lots of filtered or spring water is needed for proper UT function, also.

Thanks for your question.
