Question -
I'm 51, 135 lbs. I do housecleaning for a living. I have had asthma about 4 years and take ADVAIR to control it. Is there anything natural I could take for it? I also have a hard time keeping my iron in the normal range. It's on the low side I take iron pills and I take 2 alot of the time to keep it up. Any advice?

Dear Peggy,
Are you having any female concerns that might cause your iron to stay low? My recommendation is always minimal medication and address one issue at a time. There are some herbs that contain properties to address lung function. I am aware of some homeopathy products that are very good for asthma, but you need to find a local practitioner that will monitor your transition. Look for a homeopathist or possibly a chiropractor that also utilizes homeopathy or could make a recommendation. I know those products have helped asthmatics that have come to me, but respiratory problems must be monitored closely, the internet is not adequate for that. Consider red raspberry leaves for female issues, if that is possibly a contributing factor to your iron deficiency.

AnswerDear Peggy,
If your primary care physician is not worried about some sort of "leak" causing low iron, then perhaps your body just doesn't really absorb minerals as it should. That can also be addressed by a homeopath. If there is no listing in the Yellow Pages, then I would seek an herbalist, massage therapist or chiropractor for more information. Just look for alternative health care, perhaps even a health food store or herb shop would be able to give you a recommendation. Usually traditional medicine doesn't consider the alternative modalities to be of respectable value, but generally there is a networking of sorts amongst the various alternative providers.
You can also check the internet. Do a Google Search or Copernic as to what is available in your area and what is legal in your state.
