QuestionI know that a key to being at a healthy weight is eating correctly and exercise, but I was wondering if there are any specific herbs that I should be using in my food or types of teas that I should be drinking to be completely healthy and not just losing weight.

Thank you for your letter. There is definitely a missing link here: Metabolic health, hormonal health and a strong thyroid are the keys to losing weight with ease. A clean colon is another important factor. If you have already done a colon cleanse you are
going in the right direction. A clean colon can absorb nutrition much better than a clogged one.
Soy products contain goitrogens which depress thyroid functions. Please avoid all soy products except fermented soy; miso, tempeh, soy sauce... etc... are fermented and are healthy.
Eat a good breakfast every morning, this is very important. Eat a good lunch and then a lighter dinner.
Do not however cut out sugar from your diet. Restricting calories all of a sudden signals the body that there are no more calories coming in so the body hoards and stores the fat reserves so that it may rely on this. Therefore my advice is to decrease sugar intake, but not too much. Starches turn into sugar as well so be careful of this. Eating starches and grains at night is not suitable.
Fruits and vegetables are better.
Artificial sweeteners are very toxic. They tend to depress immune functions, affect thyroid health, heart health and the nervous system. Please cut out: splenda, sucralose, aspartame, nutra-sweet, equal, acesulfame potassium. Cut all these out completely.
