AnswerChanda,
I'd be reluctant to suggest many supplements for your husband, because this is a serious condition that requires close monitoring. The safest route would be to use diet and homeopathic remedies, if you'd like natural options. Starting with a organic whole foods diet is a good start--lots of fruits and vegetables, whole grains, legumes, with some healthy oils like olive oil, moderate in meat &dairy, and low in sugar, alcohol, & caffeine. These basic recommendations may not help specifically, but will improve overall health. Homeopathic remedies are picked according to the individual symptoms, which can do, but for best results you'd want to seek out an experienced homeopath. There are no side effects or interactions with homeopathics, so they are very safe to use.
There aren't any specific supplements or herbs to boost functioning of the spleen. To improve oxygenation, green powders/ drinks may be of some benefit, which contain grasses, seaweeds, green tea, green veggies, etc. You would want to make sure the ingredients do not interact with any medications. The best single one would be wheatgrass (fresh or powdered). To be safe, start at a low dosage and gradual increase.
Good luck in your search. Thanks for writing.
