Question
My vet is treating Ben for a tracheal collapsewhich is life threatening,  is there any alternative medication I can give him thanks Veronica

Answer
Dear Veronica,
Collapsed tracheas are quite common among small and toy breed dogs, especially as they age.
On a practical level these conditions can cause or exacerbate the condition:  obesity, allergens, excessive temperatures or humidity, overexertion, and respiratory infections.  So make sure Ben's weight is under control, check for anything around that he may be allergic to, keep him cool in hot weather, and make sure any exercise you do is slow and gentle.  A harness, instead of a collar, is recommended for walking dogs susceptible to tracheal collapse so that pressure is not applied to the neck.
Secondly if you go to www.holisticanimalmedicines.com - they have a product called:
Trachea Laryngeal Oesophagus  (AN189)
This comes in a set of 2, and is homeopathic.  It is for throat problems, breathing problems, tracheal conditions.
Keep his immune system strong by adding Maritime Pine Bark extract to his daily meals.  Available at www.herbal-treatments.com

Energetically you are also looking at an imbalance in the Throat Chakra.  Have a look at Ben's emotions and lifestyle.  He may be feeling inadequate due to aging, or feeling like he has lost control of his life.  Can you adjust any of these issues in his lifestyle?  Simply talk to him and tell him that he is useful and needed.  You can imagine a lovely blue butterfly sitting in the middle of his throat.  Also, get his teeth, gums, and mouth checked out by the vet, as problems here can also cause problems with the trachea.  Another area of concern can be his cervical vertebrae - his spine from the top of his neck to the start of his shoulders.  Massage around either side of the spine daily using gentle movements.

I hope this information has been helpful.
With thanks,
Silva.
