Question
Hello Silva,
Do you have any idea what Dr. Michael Fox says about dog arthritis?  I have searched the internet to no avail.  My dog is 12 years old with arthritis/hip dysplasia.  I have given her Arthromax, glucosamine and cosequin, none of which seemed to help.  My vet is suggesting Deramaxx and I am thinking about it but am scared.  My fur baby can still walk but cannot jump on the bed or go up stairs.  What is your opinion?  Thank you.

Answer
Hi Kim
I had not heard of Dr Fox before, but have now seen his website - thank you so much for introducing me to this fabulous man!
My understanding with glucosamine is that it should not be given on a continual basis in any event.  Often the dosages in these supplements are at a basic level, so may not have much effect on an established case.
I feel the best solution for your elderly girl is mild exercise every day, massage, acupuncture/acupressure, and adding a herbal remedy such as one of Robert McDowell's remedies for arthritis in animals:  www.herbal-treatments.com
You may need to give this on an ongoing basis to maintain and improve the condition.
Adding a tablespoon of organic Apple Cider Vinegar to daily meals may also provide some relief as this type of vinegar is full of vitamins, minerals and enzymes and works well of keeping joints healthy.
Energy healing works really well on dogs and if you find a healer in your area that can perhaps come to the house then a few sessions here would also benefit your girl.
There are ramps you can buy for "disabled" dogs to help then get into cars, or up onto furniture.
I hope this is useful info for you.
With thanks,
Silva.
