Question
My chihuahua has oxalate stones in his bladder. My vet recommended Science
Diet U/D. My neighbor (who's dog had the same thing) gave me a bag of Nutro
senior which was recommended by her vet. Will this help??? What else can I do to
help my chihuahua not have a recurrence after surgery, or better yet, dissolve
them to prevent surgery???

Answer
HI Michelle
I am not a vet and so do not want to go against what your vet is recommending.  But my experience and training tells me that commercial pet food is never healthy for our animals.
My recommendations are that you change over to a natural diet.  Introduce it slowly by adding cooked/raw meat to the food, then add veggies as well, and eventually get rid of the Science Diet all together.  You will have a much healthier and happier dog on your hands.  Purchase a good quality supplement from a natural animal health business (there are a few on line).
I would also highly recommend using Robert McDowell's bladder stone mix.  This mix is a high quality herbal remedy and has had great results.  Email Rob and he can tailor the mix to your dog's needs.  One bottle costs about $60, but will last you 3-4 months.

I hope this is helpful as you are right in wanting to try other options so that surgery may not be necessary.
Take care,
Silva.
