Hello yesterday while off loading from the truck my dog got "hung up" and tore all the tendons in his lower hind leg joint. Although I took him to the vet straight away, his x-rays reveled no breaks, but all the tendons in his leg are torn. The vet referred me to a surgery specialist, but I'm not sure I want to go that route. I would like to explore a more holistic approach to this situation. "Mac" is a working sheep dog and is counted on every day. He is vital player in the day to day. I just want whats best for him in any case. I of course want him to be well, but would like to avoid surgery if at all possible. Is there anything I can do or any supplements I could give him to help the healing process? Oh Jill - I feel his pain!!!

Sounds just awful.  Many times the areas will repair themselves but he will end up with Arthritis, without surgery... I have a few ideas for you:

Make sure you ask you vet about one BABY Aspirin ( 81mg) 1 every 8-10 hrs or when needed.

Next, Some Vitamin E 200 IU , 1 per day, this will help swelling and healing.

I wish that I could help more.  He will need to stay off his leg for a bit.  What I mean by that is keep him from jumping, if possible.
No crazy exercise or running for a number of weeks.  The area needs to heal and the swelling will not go down unless he takes it easy.
