Question My 4-yr old cat was just diagnosed with pemphagus foliaceus. My vet suggested we first try wobenzyme and then start homeopathology with her (the vet). I read your suggestions for a dog with pemphagus and understand that building her (my cat) immune system is best. Do you have suggestions that would help my cat with this?
Answer HI Barbara
PF is indeed an autoimmune disorder of the skin. Autoimmune disorders occur when the body does not recognize its own cells, and attacks itself. In the case of PF it attacks its own skin cells. Keeping the immune system in top condition is vital. Wobenzym is a natural vitamin and enzyme product, so it may indeed work really well, although I do believe it is more so used as an anti-inflammatory supplement. But it may also help with auto-immune disorders.
I think your vet is certainly right in getting the skin condition under control before secondary infections and irritations occur, and then look at herbs or homeopathy to maintain good results, improve the skin and boost immunity.
I would also be changing your cat's diet to an all raw and natural one. No dry or tinned foods. Raw meats, sardines etc.. and add raw grated veggies or a natural pet nutritional supplement to the meat.
Herbal Compound tablets also work well at keeping the immune system in good working order for cats and dogs, but would probably not be enough to start on these.
It is great that you have a vet who is open to alternate treatments.
I hope this helps you.
Thanks,
Silva.
