Subject: Westie with sebaceous cyst

Question
My 13 year old Westie has a rather large sebaceous cyst on his back. It's been there for years, but it has recently ruptured a number of times and the vet has recommended removing it surgically. I'd like to avoid surgery if possible - do you have any recommendations on how I might be able to treat it in order to get rid of it, or at least manage it?

Answer
Hi Tammy
The most important thing is to keep your Westie's immune system well boosted.  If possible it is always good to avoid surgery, especially in a older dog.  Keep him on a highly nutritious diet and add supplements such as Omega Oil blend and other canine nutrition boosters.  There are many available these days that are made from all-natural ingredients.  A product such as Herbal Compound Tablets can work really well on recurring infections.
These are available at: http://www.naturalrearing.com/coda/p_nr_original_herbal.html

Other supplements that work well for sebaceous cysts are:
Vitamin A which is essential for new skin and wound healing.
Vitamins B which provide antioxidant protection for the skin.
Zinc which supports repair of the skin.
Garlic which as enhances immunity to bacterial infections.
Milk Thistle Extract which helps keep blood and liver cleansed.

You may need the help of a naturopath to get correct dosages for your dog.
I hope this was helpful.
Kind regards,
Silva.
