Question My dog has allergies and he always itches. Would garlic powder, chopped garlic, or anything else help him?
Answer HI Josh
Although garlic can be helpful in these instances, and can also be an irritant, especially if you are not sure as to what is causing the skin problems and allergies.
My recommendation is to contact an animal herbalist - www.herbal-treatment.com
They have a "herbs for dogs" section.
I would suggest purchasing the:
Blood Poisoning Mix
Skin Allergy Mix
Allergic Rhinitis Mix.
You can email Robert the herbalist and ask him which recommendations would be best suited. You may need to give him a little more information.
I would also introduce a raw and natural diet (no commercial foods - dry or tinned) and add Omega blend oils to his diet to keep his skin and coat healthy. There are also many herbal supplements available on line that can be added to daily meals to help keep dogs' skin in good condition.
Also, have a look at his bedding, his jacket, the garden - is there anything there that is upsetting him - any plant, or synthetic fibre etc...
Frequent use of chemical flea treatments may also cause skin problems and allergies. You may want to switch to something made from natural ingredients. Too frequent bathing will cause skin to become dry and itchy. When a dog is eating a raw and natural diet, he rarely needs to be washed as he just simply does not smell.
I hope this has been helpful.
Kind regards,
Silva.
