QuestionMy eight year old, overweight Rott has a fatty lump on his side. It came out about two years ago and it has taken since to get the size of a golf ball. He doesn't show any signs of pain or seem uncomfortable. It is very soft and he doesn't react when you touch it. Surgery is just not for us. He was a rescued animal and does not do well with strange surroundings The vet told me it was not dangerous it might just get really big. Is there anything I can do to help reduce it. Also is there a brand of food you can recommend for him. he is overweight. I've tried giving him boiled chicken breast with rice and veggies (green beans). Is that better than dog food or should i be giving him only dog food.
AnswerHi Yami - How about this special recipe for dogs with possible cancer... It may help to reduce the swelling or future swelling and inflammation. Also, try the NuVET supplement wafers for this baby - many dogs with fatty growths or tumors take 1-2 NuVETs per day:
SEE here:
CANCER DIET ( for dogs with CA or Non-Cancer - ) JUST a good overall program for your boy!
Try it and see:
The following home-made cancer diet can be given to any dogwith cancer, and follows the "low carbs, high fat, moderate protein" principle.
It is important to understand that some additional supplementation (eg. high-quality Iron-free multi vitamin) is needed for complete nutrition. ( see NuVET vitamins below)
1 cup cooked brown rice
2 eggs hard boiled
1 teaspoon Flax Oil
( make sure you grate them...food processor)
1 cup grated, lightly steamed or raw organic vegetables (carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, bok-choy, cabbage, tomatoes etc…) **NO onions.....
½ cup low-fat cottage cheese
½ cup cooked beef or fully cooked chicken or turkey **(immune suppression from chemotherapy makes bacterial contamination a danger, so be sure to cook all meat thoroughly)
MUST cook all meats...
This is enough food for a 15-20 lb pooch for one day (double the above amounts for a 30-40 lb pup; ****PLEASE NOTE******triple the amounts for a 50-60 lb)Rottie....
It should be fed in 2-4 servings at room temperature.
THIS IS SIMPLE TO MAKE - ALSO - YOU SHOULD ADD 2 TEASPOONs OF NUVET CANINE SUPPLEMENT POWDER TO THE DIET / or 2 NuVET wafers per day ...
NuVET can be purchased from a Holistic vet or the Manufacturer:

1-800-474-7044 ( order code 81098 for the 15 % off)
( if you can't afford the 2 dosages a day - at least give 1 dosage of NuVET per day -----)
I understand that money may be an issue .... HOPE this helps.
