Alternative Medicine for Pets/Feline with Hyperthyroidism;

Question
I have an eleven year old cat that was recently diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. Her blood levels came back abnormal at her annual check-up and the vet put her on Methimazole (5 MG twice daily) Her noticeable symptoms include constant hunger and thirst as well as weight loss. Can I treat this naturally? The medicine they have prescribed is $40.00 per month! Any advice would be helpful.
Thank you

Answer
Hi Sherry, I wish that I had an alternative for your situation.  At her age, I feel you should follow your Allopathic Vet's advice and use the medication.  You may be able to get the RX filled at CostCo or another Big Box RX store.  Many of the human pharmacy operations will fill pet meds.  Did you know that most pet meds are the same as humans meds?

So, how about asking the vet for the RX and bring it to another place to be filled.
You can call around and see who will fill pet meds.  ( you will find that many place will)

Good luck
