Alternative Medicine for Pets/Mammary tumors in cat

QuestionHello Marie,
I'm hoping that you may have some suggestions on how to help my kitty deal with her cancer, or at least boost her immunity to give her a better quality of life and a shot at fighting secondary infections.
My sweet kitty, Collie, came to me as a stray 13 years ago, has been a diabetic for 5 years now. She had been on Humulin, then we went to Globurol for a while, then she was diabetes free, then it came back again...She had an insulin shock on Saturday, as she was reverting back to being non-diabetic [she had done this once before]. During a routine follow-up exam on Monday everything was normal, then we found 3 mammary tumors. One tumor is about 2cm near one of her nipples near the front legs, the next one is fairly small on the same chain, and the third one is on the other chain and is barely there but the vet feels small nodules [I don't feel it]. Knowing that 85% of tumors in cats are malignant, the vet didn't feel that there was any point in testing her to confirm what she already knew...three tumors attacking both mammary chains is not good. The vet didn’t feel that chemo was humane for a kitty and I don't want to go to surgery, as its incredibly painful and the recovery would be difficult for her. Not to mention that we would need to do two surgeries and the vet is not sure whether they could get adequate margins. There is also a 50% chance that the cancer will recur, so I will put her through all that pain and suffering to give her another year or possibly two, if even that...I would be doing it more for me than for her.
At the moment, Collie feels well and is behaving normally. Her blood tests all came back normal, normal liver/kidney function as well. Since her tummy is shaved, she has begun to lick the area beside tumor, and has a little red area beside it, which is a little yellow right now and has a bit of discharge...no open sores. The vet feels that the discharge is coming from the nipple and is normal. The nipple near the tumor is dark.
I just want to make sure that she is happy and comfortable for as long as possible - once that changes, we will need to look at putting her to rest, which is incredibly difficult. I’ve been crying for 4 days now.
I am located in Ontario Canada, and there are no holistic vets in my area. I'd like to know what to give her to boost immunity, or possibly slow the tumor growth. How would I go about doing it? What quantities? Etc.
Any suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated! I am having a very difficult time with this!
Iwona
PS
I have two other cats, one new stray which has a vaccine induced tumor discovered yesterday
AnswerHi Ladies, I am so sorry to hear of your troubles. I agree with you and would not have the surgery done on this girl's tumor. Here are a few things to help build the immuntiy -
1. Place some Silver Shield on the tumor and raw areas - This is not a drug but all natural Silver Salve - You can only get this product from Nature's Sunshine I know many Natural Vitamin and Health stores do carry Nature's Sunshine in Canada. Call around as see if you can find it. You want the Silver Shield Gel and the liquid ( TWO products)
( if you can't find it, you can always order on-line)
2. Also, the Silver Shield liquid, give her 1 teaspoon 2 x per day - You can also give 1/2 teaspoon per day to the other cat. ( mix into the food or drop into the side of the mouth with a dropper)
Silver shield helps to heal and it an anti-viral. Many Cancer patients use it with some relief.
It will not cure but can be helpful.
3. I would love to see your girl get some NuVET Plus into her system - just 1/2 teaspoon 2 x per day will sure help the immune system. You can't find NuVet in any pet stores:
( mix the NuVET into wet food or cottage cheese )
