Alternative Medicine for Pets/bentonite for dogs

Question
I have some Great Plains bentonite detox.  Is this safe for dogs?

Answer
Hi Jamie
If you are referring to calcium bentonite clay, then yes it is safe for animals to use.  However, for a medium to large size dog I would not use more than a half to one teaspoon of powder per day.  With pets is it just as easy to add it to their fresh drinking water every day.  Or it can be sprinkled ontop of their food in powder form.  Make sure they have plenty of fresh water to drink every day.  I probably would not use it continuously, but say two weeks on, two weeks off would be fine.  You will find that your dog's bowel movements will be much firmer on the clay.
I do not know this specific product, so I am presuming that it only contains the clay.  If however there are other ingredients, then you are best to check it out before giving it to your dog.
I hope this helps,
Silva.
