QuestionMy little Maltese was diagnosed a little over a year ago with Granulomatous Meningoencephalitis. The Prednisone has caused a Kidney infection (on 2nd round of antibiotics). He is fed natural organic food (which contains vitamins and minerals) and is given probiotics, vitamin B12, nutricuticals, Omega 3 oil and Filtered water (Distilled). I am also giving him one drop daily of Oregano oil in water. My concern is that if we do not get him off the preds. they will kill him as quickly as the GME may. I personally believe that the GME is a fungus although I do not have any set proof of that other than what I have learned about fungus. The Dr who diagnosed him was very open to trying an antifungal and after the 2nd day he was much better and more alert but again it is a synthetic drug that has harmful side effects. Cancer is a fungus and I understand that the GME is related to cancer. Thank you so much for this opportunity to get some knowledgeable advice on alternative treatment of this disease.
AnswerHello Patricia and little Maltese! I have a Maltese, too.
I see you are doing a wonderful job! I wonder if you would like to home cook with the following diets; ( they are for dogs with cancer)
I know you maltese doesn't have Ca but it could be helpful:
see here
CANINE CANCER DIET
The following home-made cancer diet can be given to any pup with cancer, and follows the "low carbs, high fat, moderate protein" principle. It is important to understand that some additional supplementation (eg. high-quality Iron-free multi vitamin) is needed for complete nutrition.
1 cup cooked brown rice
2 eggs hard boiled
1 teaspoon Flax Oil
( make sure you grate them...food processor)
1 cup grated, lightly steamed or raw organic vegetables (carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, bok-choy, cabbage, tomatoes etc…)
½ cup low-fat cottage cheese
½ cup cooked beef or fully cooked chicken or turkey **(immune suppression from chemotherapy makes bacterial contamination a danger, so be sure to cook all meat thoroughly)
MUST cook all meats...
This is enough food for a 15-20 lb pooch for one day (double the above amounts for a 30-40 lb pup; triple the amounts for a 50-60lb).
It should be fed in 2-4 servings at room temperature.
THIS IS SIMPLE TO MAKE - ALSO - YOU SHOULD ADD 1/2 TEASPOON OF NUVET CANINE SUPPLEMENT POWDER TO THE DIET / JUST 1 DOSAGE PER DAY;
NuVET can be purchased from a Holistic vet or the Manufacturer:
http://www.nuvet.com/81098 ( tell them pet Nurse Marie sent you)
1-800-474-7044 ( order code 81098 for the 15 % off)
NEXT - I would go "off" the Nutricuticals and try the NuVET supplememnt. Good job on the Oil of Oregano ...!
I would add an ESTER C to the program. (1) of 500 mg per day and must be Ester C only)
In time - a month or so, ask your vet to drop the Prednisone dosage down slightly. This needs to be done slowly as to not shock the system.. OK>>>>>>
Try the home cooking - I can give you other recipes, too.
Use the cancer protocal for home cooking -
Use the NuVET and the Ester C.
In time - you may be able to reduce the steroid usage in 1/2 or more.
I am not sure if you will be able to get rid of the steroids in total.
ONLY time will tell.
Keep me posted!!! I am here for you... I have a maltese, too!
