Alternative Medicine for Pets/8yr old Golden with leukemia

Question
Hi, Expert Marie Peppers advised me to redirect my question
to you as you may have more experience with leukemia. I
decided against treating her with chemo and chose to give
her a course of steroids to see how she responds. I know
that I will eventually have to take the heartbreaking
decision to put her to sleep, but just now she seems to
still be quite happy. She started the steroids 4 days ago
and the vet has advised they will not be working quite yet.
I would just like some advice on how she will be feeling
even though there is no outward signs as yet apart from her
being tired. She is still enjoying walks and playing with
my 5 year old son. Her appetite is ok aswell, although I am
adding the extra treats to her food like chicken breast. Is
there anything I should avoid diet wise? What would the
signs be that she is not coping? And any other info you
might think would be helpful. I know that she will not be
cured and that it is only a matter of time before I will
have to make the dreaded decision but would love to make
her happy and as comfortable as I can. I do not want to let
her suffer, she's like my other child. Many thanks, Leigh.

Answer
Dear Leigh
I am not an expert on veterinary medications, but all I can tell you is that the usual signs of not feeing well include lethargy, lack of appetite, change in habits, constant licking of paws, breathing difficulties.  These signs usually indicate illness and/or pain.
There are some remedies that may help and there are also many natural therapy vets in the UK.  Many do acupunture and herbal medicine.  You may just need to ask around or do an internet search.  If you do decide to give her something herbal as well you really need to get it made up by either a vet or herbalist (rather than just buying something online).
Energy medicine also works really well and can make a big difference in how she is feeling.  There would be many well-recommended healers in the UK that you could source out.
In regard to diet - I would be feeding her fresh foods (meats and veggies and fruits) - not commercial pet food.  Add to this a good quality supplement that will boost her immune system.  There are many available and their are some products in the UK -
www.animal-health.co.uk - that are very good.

I hope this helps you.

Many thanks,
Silva.
