Question
Hi, my name is Gracie. You have helped me so much before with my Boston terrier! I was hoping you could do so again. I have a 20 month old bull terrier named Chino that is having a bit of an eating problem. I am feeding him twice a day Purina benieful mixed with homemade rice and chicken. But he is still very skinny for a bull terrier. I have talked to other bull terrier owners and they have let me know that they start filling out by two. But he is already close to that age and he is 45 pounds. His parents were at least 60 pounds. Am I not feeding him enough? I've tried to feed him at least 3 times a day but he wont eat. Is there any type of food that will bulk him up a bit, because he's ribs tend to show a bit. Thank you!

Hi Grace - Yes, I remember your Boston Terrier...
I sure do hate the Purina Beneful dog food - too much corn... Hard to digest - it just comes out in the poop.
I would place the Handsome guy on some BARKING at the MOON by Solid Gold - Let me know if you can't find it....
Use your old food and the new food: A 50:50 mix for a few months -
SEE if the Barking at the MOON helps - It should bulk him up..
Also, if he is not yet on the NuVET wafers - Please give him 1 per day .... NuVET is an immune system booster and allergy blasters BUT it also helps with digestion. One of the popular pitbull farms give all the MOMS and pups NuVET - they say it give you a very bulk and healthy pitbull ....
Here is the number for NuVET
1-800-474-7044 ( tell them Marie of Ask the Pet Nurse sent you)
use order code 81098 ( ALSO, if you go on autoship you will get 15% off every order)

You can also add this to his meals - 2-3 small doggie meatballs every day - OH, so good!
Also, you can try this recipe - very easy to cook
Dog Meatballs
Dog Dog Food Recipe by Michele, provided to her by her vet.
Ground chicken
Ground beef
4% small curd cottage cheese
2 cups quaker oats soaked in low sodium chicken broth
peas
string beans
2 tablespoons salmon or fish oil (health food store or break open capsules from grocery store)
2 eggs
2 boiled yams or sweet potatoes -this is great protein and helps keep everything moist.
Mix together and make into meatballs the size of your dogs portion. Bake them at 350 until they are completely done.
Freeze into bags and warm up in microwave until warm and serve. They should love it and it is all digested so there is very little waste and smell.
Keep me posted...
Don't use the BARKING at the MOON food if you decide to do the home made meatballs...
