Alternative Medicine for Pets/Infected foot on Cavy

Question
One of my cavies (Fernando) has a foot that is swollen to about 3 or 4 times normal size. It gets, seemingly, bubbles of fluid that then open & scab over. He has had this problem for around 2 months now. In the beginning, I separated him from the others so that I could monitor & control what he eats, giving him extra vitamin c & greens. He gladly ate the vit c tablets on his own, & the swelling went down to almost normal. Then it swelled again, & I did the same. He then refused his vit c tablets. I took him to the doctor a little over a month ago. She said it was an infection, & said he would have to be on anti-biotics for 2 months, as cavies take a very long time to get over infections. We started him on Batril, (22.7mg) 1/2 tablet, 2 times a day, plus an anti-inflamatory, Metacam .1cc once a day. I did this for 4 weeks, with no change in his condition. (By the way, he acts normal otherwise: plenty of energy, walking on the foot normally.) I spoke to the doctor & she said to add a new anti-biotic, Metronidazole 250mg, 1/8 tablet, twice a day; this is in addition to the Baytril & Metacam. After 2 days of this, he lost his appetite. She said to stop all medications immediately, & encourage him to eat. This was yesterday; he had his meds in the morning, but not at night. Last night, he ate a slice of carrot, a piece of broccoli, a slice of cucumber, a piece of watermelon, & a little bit of hay. He has eaten only a cherry tomato, & a tiny bit of greens this a.m.: dandelion, chicory, parsley, mint, & the stem of one strawberry leaf. He was offered 2 different types of Kale, fennel, a cauliflower leaf, basil, as well as Oxbow pellets, none of which he ate. I am going to try dissolving a vit c tablet in water, & then give it to him by syringe. How long does it take for vit c to lose its potency, once exposed to light?
I am attaching a picture of him, I hope that it's good enough for you to zoom in on his foot.
I am not a fan of conventional western medicine, however, the only cavy veterinarian available to me, practices con. west. medicine. She does not think well of holistic medicine, so I can't even talk to her about it. Is there an alternative treatment for Fernando's foot? Please help. Thankyou!!!
AnswerDawn- I am not a Cavy person but I have seen this before!
The only thing I can think of would be Silver :
Silver shield - place this gel on his foot 2 x per day.
It is good for humans, too.... Any cuts and ulcers.
